Josh Jacobs came into this game for the Packers against the Lions in Week 14 of the 2024 NFL season knowing that he would have a critical role to play against the team leading the NFC. With Green Bay having a 9-3 record, they knew that a win here on the road would lead to them coming to a game within of their opponents. With just four games left after this, Detroit had an 11-1 record and time running out for rivals to catch up to them.

His touchdown production had been healthy too with eight forays into the endzone, one of them coming in Week 13 against the Dolphins. Josh Jacobs took the game by the scruff of the neck right from the first and did everything he could to make his team win. After a couple of carries that set the tone, he became indispensable for the Packers as they went toe to toe with the divisional and conference leaders.
After having one touchdown in total in the previous week, he added his first before halftime. It came at a crucial time as the Lions were leading 10-0 in the second quarter and it looked like the match was getting away from the visiting team. On a first-and-goal, the running back punched it to reduce the arrears to just three points.
In the second half, Josh Jacobs proved his worth again as he scored another go-ahead touchdown with Detroit leading 17-14 at that point. The Lions were leading 17-7 at the break but Tucker Kraft had scored a touchdown to bring the scores closer.
It was another first-and-goal, but it was much further from where he got his first score. However, it did not matter because the Lions' defenders proved unable to stop him despite throwing bodies at the running back. Josh Jacobs got his second to make the score 21-10 for the visiting team after the conversion.
The game had settled into a pattern by that point as the two NFC North rivals went back and forth in scoring. The Lions took the lead again and it was left to the Packers' rushing star to bring his team back into the lead again.
Right at the beginning of the fourth quarter, Josh Jacobs at it one more time as he equaled his best performance in 2024 when he went into the endzone for the third time. This was on a second-and-goal situation and that gave the Packers a 27-24 lead.
It seemed that Detroit was unable to contain the running back and had to rely on their own offense to keep up with his production. Green Bay's playcalling limited Josh Jacobs from scoring anything as a receiver and the home team's defense managed to slow him down towards the end of the game, getting his average to below four yards per carry.
Ultimately, that proved enough as the Lions ended up 34-31 winners and extending their record to 12-1 for the season. For the Packers, it was a disappointing loss as they fell to 9-4 despite the best efforts of their star running back.
