Julian Edelman throws cap in frustration during Patriots' bizarre loss to RaidersĀ
The New England Patriots suffered one of the most bizarre and self-inflicted losses yesterday and former wide receiver Julian Edelman was having none of it. It has been a frustrating year for the Patriots and the former wide receiver's reaction is fitting.
The Patriots dropped to 7-7 when they could have easily gone to overtime and won, but instead made a crucial mistake to quite literally hand the win to the Las Vegas Raiders.
Edelman took to Twitter to post his frustrated reaction.
Edelman said:
"What the f*** are we doing? What are we doing?!"
He then proceeded to throw his hat in pure anger.
With no time remaining and the score tied 24-24, the Patriots handed the ball off to Rhamondre Stevenson. He took the ball into field goal range, but without any time, he needed to score.
He decided to lateral it to nearby teammate Jakobi Meyers, who ran back about 15 yards before trying to lateral it across the field to Mac Jones.
Standing right in the way (the ball might never have gotten to Jones anyway) was former Patriot Chandler Jones, who plucked the ball out of the air.
He turned and stiff-armed the Patriots quarterback into the turf and ran about 50 yards to win the game with zeroes on the clock.
It was a shocking loss that might have cost the Patriots the postseason as they dropped out of the seventh seed as a result.
Could Julian Edelman come out of retirement?
On NFL Films, Julian Edelman teased a comeback to the league. He joked that the real season doesn't begin until after Thanksgiving, intimating that that would be an ideal time to return.
There has been a lot of speculation around which former teammates might return to help Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, it seems the Patriots need as much help.
Since Thanksgiving came and went and there are now just three games left, a return for Edelman is all but impossible and incredibly unlikely.
It's possible in the future, but he won't be suiting up for this season.
