Kansas City Chiefs vs New Orleans Saints: Box score, player stats and summary feat. Travis Kelce, Alvin Kamara

The Kansas City Chiefs entered this game against the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football from a position of strength. They were the only team in the AFC without a loss all season and knew that a victory would put them level with the Minnesota Vikings, who are now 5-0 in the NFC.

The Saints, though, needed to reboot their season. After two wins that yielded more than 90 points on offense, they came into this game having lost their last two.

Both franchises entered this game with different motivations and it was the Chiefs that came out on top against the Saints to close out Week 5.

This is how the action went down:

Chiefs vs. Saints game summary

The scene was set in the first quarter as New Orleans elected to receive the ball and Derek Carr threw an interception to give the ball back to Kansas City. Patrick Mahomes then got to work and took them 78 yards on a drive that led to a rushing touchdown by Kareem Hunt.

The defenses then took over, forcing a couple of punts from both teams. But then the Chiefs got into field goal range, which allowed Harrison Butker to convert and give them a 10-0 lead.

A deep throw by Derek Carr to Rashid Shaheed brought some respite for the Saints as the touchdown made the score 10-7. But Patrick Mahomes led the Chiefs to two more drives that yielded field goals, which allowed them to go into the break ahead 16-7.

The Chiefs dominated possession in the third quarter again. Only a missed field goal by Harrison Butker and an interception in the endzone off the hand of JuJu Smith-Schuster prevented the scores from getting out of hand.

One might have even thought that such wastefulness would come back to bite the home team when Derek Carr threw a touchdown pass to Foster Moreau. The missed conversion meant that the Saints now trailed 16-13.

But they could not make any more headway as it was all Chiefs in the final quarter. They immediately scored a touchdown to respond to the Saints' score in the previous drive to make it 23-13.

As New Orleans tried to respond, they turned the ball over on downs twice, with the first leading to an oblique injury for Derek Carr. In between those two attempts, Harrison Butker kicked one more field goal to make the final score 26-13 to Kansas City.

Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes are now the only undefeated team in the AFC after Week 5 and the only team other than the Vikings who still have a perfect record in the NFL this season.
