LA Rams' 2022 season all but over as team announces major injury update

The Los Angeles Rams have had a 2022 season to forget as the defending Super Bowl champions currently sit with a 3 - 8 record. To make matters even worse, the team placed their quarterback, Matthew Stafford, on injured reserve. The quarterback cleared concussion protocol but was ruled out of Los Angeles' Week 13 match against the Seattle Seahawks because of a neck injury.

Even if Stafford were to return in Week 17, the Rams could choose to keep him out, given their record this season. In nine starts, Stafford has thrown for 2,087 yards, 10 touchdowns, and eight interceptions this campaign. An elbow injury has bothered the Pro Bowl quarterback for the majority of the offseason.

He has been in concussion protocol twice this season. Mid-week concussion symptoms held him out of a Week 10 game against the Arizona Cardinals and in-game against the New Orleans Saints in a Week 11 loss.

Rams are placing QB Matthew Stafford on injured reserve, effectively ending his 2022 season. Stafford will be eligible to return in Week 17 at the Chargers, but at that point, there would be little incentive to play and expose their veteran quarterback.

Back in March, Los Angeles gave Matthew Stafford a $160 million contract extension. The question that remains is who will start in place of Stafford in Week 13.

Who will start in place of Matthew Stafford for the Rams?

The Rams will start quarterback John Wolford in place of Stafford versus the Seahawks. Wolford started a game this season back in Week 10 against the Cardinals. He threw for 212 yards for a touchdown and an interception in that game. In his career with Los Angeles, he started another game back in the 2020 season.

He faced the Cardinals in the season finale, throwing for 231 yards and an interception. It is unknown who will start beyond this week for Los Angeles beyond Week 13. The team has also started quarterback Bryce Perkins this season in place of Matthew Stafford. Perkins started back in Week 12 versus the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

The former Virginia Cavaliers star threw for 100 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. He also rushed for 44 yards in that matchup as well. We will see how the Rams fare without Stafford for the foreseeable future this season.
