Lamar Jackson breaks silence after Ravens fan Chuck commits suicide due to mental health issues - "Damn bro"

Almost a month after receiving a record-breaking contract with the Baltimore Ravens, Lamar Jackson did not have much time to celebrate.

On Saturday, reports emerged that PurpleReignEra, a fan of the Baltimore Ravens, had died in an apparent suicide. Just before his death, PurpleReignEra, whose real name was Chuck, tweeted this:

Sorry gang. I hope the Ravens do well but this will be my last tweet from me. Thanks for all the debates and laughs lol

Hours after PurpleReignEra's death, the Baltimore quarterback himself joined in the mourning with this tweet:

Damn bro check on the ones that’s always in great spirits #Prayingforyourlilones #MentalHealthAwareness

Why did PurpleReignEra commit suicide?

Acording to his Instagram Stories, PurpleReignEra had been having a litany of problems throughout the latter stages of his life.

His best friends "Black"/"Dev" had been shot dead during a robbery, and Chuck had been dealing with a gambling addiction. He also mentioned having a poor relationship with this father.

He closed his stories with the following:

β€œAnyways this my last post fr. And don’t be sad. I had fun life like nah fr lol I kno I lived a great life. Bye, y’all.”

At the time of his death, PurpleReignEra had been living with Baltimore-based model and influencer Stephanie Skyy and his two sons. Skyy posted this on her Instagram Stories shortly after his death:

What is the confusion surrounding PurpleReignEra and Chuck Clark?

Earlier during the news cycle, rumors persisted that the Chuck who died was safety Chuck Clark, who had played with Jackson from 2017 to 2022. Ravens Nation LIVE had tweeted this when errouneously announcing Clark's death:

An icon.
RIP Chuck.
Mental health is real. Prayers for his family tonight.

A twitter user by the name of LadyKaralyn had to remind the account that Clark was still alive:

wrong guy. NFL star is not dead. it was a guy of the same name who was a Ravens fan. the Ravens Chuck Clark is still alive.

Clark, who plays safety, had been with Baltimore ever since they drafted him 186th overall out of Virginia Tech in 2017. Two months ago, he was traded to the New York Jets for a 2024 seventh round pick.
