Matthew Stafford waiver wire fantasy outlook Week 9: Why you need to consider Rams QB
We're officially approaching the halfway mark of the NFL season and if you're still invested in your fantasy team, we know the waiver wire is sort of a mixed bag right about now. The good news is that if you're still invested in your fantasy team in Week 9, it means you still have a shot at making the playoffs.
Given a number of high-value quarterbacks have disappointed this week (looking at you, Aaron Rodgers) you'd be forgiven for looking at the waiver wire in Week 9. One name you should pay particular attention to is Matthew Stafford. Here's everything you need to know about Stafford's value on the waiver wire in Week 9.
Matthew Stafford waiver wire fantasy outlook for Week 9
We all love an early surprise and Stafford was handed a pretty big one when the franchise confirmed that both Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua would be available for their Week 8 Thursday Night Football showdown against the Minnesota Vikings.
Stafford didn't need much incentive to go out and do his thing with his two premier playmakers back in action. Stafford threw for 279 yards and four touchdowns as the Rams improved to 3-4. They're still fourth in the NFC West, but all is not lost just yet.
Despite losing Kupp and Nacua, Stafford was pretty consistent in slinging the ball out to his backup wide receivers. That consistency paid off when he registered a season-high of 24.76 fantasy points in Week 8. Those points came against arguably the best defense in the National Football League so we have to give Stafford his flowers here.
And it gets even better.
The Rams now have somewhat of an extended week after that Thursday night kickoff as they prep to go up against their division rivals, the Seattle Seahawks.
Seattle has had a tough time shutting defenses down this year so this is definitely a matchup that carries a lot of upside. Between Kupp, Nacua and Kyren Williams, expect Stafford to showcase a full complement of his tricks when they face Seattle on Sunday.
At present, Stafford is owned in 39% of Yahoo! leagues and 18.5% of ESPN leagues.
