Michael Irvin delivers hot-take likening Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams to legendary NFL duo
Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams were among the NFL's top duos when the latter was with the Green Bay Packers. However, the two-time All-Pro wide receiver was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason after eight seasons in Green Bay.
One NFL analyst likened the pairing of Rodgers and Adams for the Packers to a Hall of Fame duo.
Former Dallas Cowboys great and NFL analyst Michael Irvin compared the former Packers duo to Hall of Famers Joe Montana and Jerry Rice, on the Richard Sherman Podcast (via The Shadow League).
“I said it last year when I watched them. I said I got to do it, I never did it, but I finally have to do it. I said, man, watching the show, I never thought I will stand on myself that I’m going to put somebody on the sacred ground of Joe Montana and Jerry Rice.”
Irvin added:
“I’ve never said another combination was up there on Joe Montana and Jerry Rice level, because we’ve seen them do the same thing, but this group, that group belonged up there for what they were doing, they belonged up there, and why did you tear that apart?”
In 77 games together with Montana for the San Francisco 49ers, Rice had 386 receptions for 6,170 yards and 67 touchdowns. The duo also won two Super Bowls together (Super Bowls 23 and 24). As for Rodgers and Adams, Adams had 622 receptions for 7,590 yards and 69 touchdowns.
However, the pair never made it to the Super Bowl in six playoff appearances together. Currently, Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams look like different players without one another in the 2022-23 season.
