Derek Carr's Raiders career could effectively be over as Raiders look at saving millions after dropping QB
Could Derek Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders split up in 2023? A report this morning following the quarterback's status for the remainder of the season could suggest so.
The Raiders announced this morning, on Dec. 28, 2022, that they will be benching Carr for the last two games of the season and will be going with Jarrett Stidham for the last two games as their starting quarterback.
Through 15 games this season, Carr has a personal worst passer rating of 86.3. His 14 interceptions are the league's most and the Raiders seem set to move on from him.
Part of the process in releasing Carr is that the Raiders can cut him before February and save $40.4 million.
According to spotract.com, the Raiders have a potential out after this season and would only owe Carr $5.6 million in dead cap. And after another mediocre season, the Raiders seem ready to move on.
Who will be the quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023 if they move on from Derek Carr?
It seems likely that the Las Vegas Raiders will move on from Derek Carr next season.
If they do, they will have to figure out who his replacement will be. There were rumors that they were interested in Tom Brady, especially with his former coordinator, Josh McDaniels, being their head coach.
There are other free agents in the 2023 free agency class that they could go after featuring Lamar Jackson.
Las Vegas could also draft a young stud in the 2023 draft as the QB draft class is deep.
With the news of Carr being benched, all signs point to him being out as the Raiders starter in 2023.
