2 men charged in fallout of Denver shooting that injured Broncos WR Josh Reynolds: Report
There is a new update in the shooting investigation of Denver Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds. The 29-year-old was shot while in his vehicle in the early hours of October 18, 2024, in Glendale, Colorado. This occurred just hours after the Denver Broncos defeated the New Orleans Saints in a Thursday night matchup. Reynolds and two passengers in his vehicle were injured.
On October 30, 2024, charges were filed against two men: Burr Charlesworth and Luis Mendoza, in connection with shooting Reynolds, as per Denver7. Charlesworth was charged with six counts of attempted first-degree murder, six counts of first-degree assault, as well as three counts of illegal discharge of a firearm.
Mendoza was charged with six counts of attempted first-degree murder, six counts of first-degree assault, three counts of illegal discharge of a firearm, four counts of possession of a firearm by a previous offender, one count of possession of a large-capacity magazine and three counts of drug possession.
Charlesworth posted $100,000 bail and was released; Mendoza is still in jail on a $300,000 cash-only bail.
According to court documents, Reynolds was driving his Ford Bronco with his two passengers when the men who were in another vehicle began shooting at him. Reynolds and his companions had just left a gentleman's club when the pursuit began.
Reynolds attempted to get away and drove for several miles as the men continued to shoot at him. Police were able to arrive on scene after multiple 9-1-1 calls were made from Reynolds' vehicle.
Josh Reynolds' injury status
Josh Reynolds was on a four-week injured reserve list when the shooting occurred. Reynolds was dealing with a finger injury that he had sustained earlier in the season and underwent surgery to repair just weeks before the shooting.
During the shooting incident, Reynolds was shot twice, once in his arm and the other in the back of his head. He received treatment at a local hospital for minor injuries and has been with the team during meetings and on the sidelines during games.
The Denver Broncos haven't set a timeline for Josh Reynolds' return as of yet. Broncos' head coach Sean Payton's only comment to reporters about the situation was that Reynolds was "shaken up" after the shooting.
