2024 NFL Draft: Which quarterbacks went undrafted?
Quarterbacks were in high demand on Day 1 of the 2024 draft. Six of the first 12 picks, including the top three, were signal-callers who are expected to start in their teams' season-opener in September.
While quarterbacks stole the headlines on Day 1, Day 2 was the opposite. None of the 32 teams picked were interested in the signal-callers left on the board and addressed other needs. Day 3 was also off to a slow start for quarterbacks, as none were picked in the fourth round. Spencer Rattler and the New Orleans Saints ended the lull in the fifth round and it reopened the floodgates.
Four more quarterbacks were picked in the final three rounds, bringing the total to ten. While the draft festivities are in the rearview mirror, a few signal-callers are still searching for a new home. Here's the list:
NFL Draft 2024: Undrafted Quarterbacks that teams could target
Sam Hartman
Notre Dame star Sam Hartman was projected to be a sixth- or seventh-round draft pick. He wrapped up his collegiate career with the Fighting Irish with an impressive campaign. He completed 63.5% of his pass attempts for 2,689 yards and 24 touchdowns with eight interceptions. However, his performances were impressive enough for teams to take a chance on the 24-year-old quarterback.
Austin Reed
Western Kentucky star Austin Reed capped off his college with 3,240 passing yards, 11 passing touchdowns, 100 rushing yards, and four rushing touchdowns in 12 games. He was projected to be a potential seventh-round punt for a team looking to add depth to their quarterback room, but with better options available, Reed couldn't find a suitor. The 24-year-old signal-caller will look to land a gig as an undrafted free agent.
Taulia Tagovailoa
Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa hoped to join his brother, Miami Dolphins star Tua Tagovailoa, in the NFL. However, unlike Tua, a highly-touted first-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft, Taulia was projected to be a late-round pick and a contender for this year's Mr. Irrelevant tag. However, his draft stock plummeted after an underwhelming display at Maryland's Pro Day, prompting teams to look elsewhere and leaving him undrafted.
Several other quarterbacks also failed to land a gig with an NFL team during the draft. They can be found on this extensive list of players curated by our resident expert Tony Pauline. These hopefuls will now visit tryouts and look to impress teams and get a spot on their 2024 roster.
