2025 NFL Draft: 6 QB prospects to watch out for ft. Shedeur Sanders, Quinn Ewers and more

The talk prior to April was that teams who needed a quarterback best get one during the 2024 NFL Draft, because next year’s event looks weak, an opinion I don’t necessarily agree with.

If I told you 12 months ago that Jayden Daniels would end up the second pick of the draft, or Michael Penix Jr. the eighth selection, or J.J. McCarthy the 10th pick, most would’ve roared with laughter. And while there is no knockout prospect at the top of the position, the 2025 draft offers a lot of potential at quarterback.

Here’s a half-dozen to watch, including three from the SEC.

6 QB prospects to keep an eye on in 2025 NFL Draft

#1 - Shedeur Sanders, Colorado

After the first month last season, Sanders looked like a top-10 pick. He consistently came through and brilliantly led Colorado to late-game charges despite having a poor offensive line and limited quantity at the skill positions. Then the bottom fell out for Colorado. Yet at the top of his game, Sanders is a brilliant signal caller with the physical skills to play in a variety of schemes and the mental acumen to match. He has the potential to be a top-eight selection, but Sanders must be consistent next season and his father best keep his mouth shut on where he will and won’t let Shedeur play on Sundays.

#2 - Quinn Ewers, Texas

Ewers could be in the fight of his life this season as he battles Arch Manning to be the Longhorns’ starting signal caller. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as he’ll be pressured to play at a high level every snap or he’ll lose his job. Ewers is a classic pocket passer with a great vertical arm. He’s accurate and does a terrific job delivering deep throws. Ewers is slow to pull the trigger at times, which is a concern. I’m told it’s not due to indecision, rather Ewers does not want to make a mistake with the football. He has top-20 potential, and that’s where I expect Ewers to end up if he plays to the expectations of scouts.

#3 - Jalen Milroe, Alabama

If there’s any signal caller who could make a Jayden Daniels-type move up draft boards over the next 12 months, I believe it’s Milroe. He’s the most physically gifted of all the top signal callers when factoring in size, athleticism and arm strength. Milroe also did a sensational job transforming from big-armed athlete into an accurate quarterback last season. He played brilliantly down the stretch in beating LSU, engineering a last-second win over Auburn, upsetting Georgia in the SEC title game and keeping the Tide in the contest against Michigan during the College Football Playoff. Milroe needs to be a bit quicker getting rid of the football, but his upside is enormous.

#4 - Carson Beck, Georgia

In many ways, Beck is the antithesis of Stetson Bennett, the former Georgia quarterback who won consecutive national titles with the Bulldogs before being selected in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. Beck is much bigger and a significantly better arm talent than his former teammate. Yet he’s not as quick with his decision making, nor is Beck as accurate. Physical skills alone put him near the top of the quarterback class of 2025, but Beck needs to improve the details of his game.

#5 - Jaxson Dart, Mississippi

In my opinion, no quarterback is as underrated or overlooked as a next-level prospect than Dart. The transfer from USC has been a winning, productive quarterback for the Rebels, and he showed a lot of improvement in his game last season. He’s methodical making decisions and does a terrific job leading the offense. Dart could be the 2025 version of Bo Nix, a signal caller who ends up being drafted much earlier than anyone believes in the lead-up to the draft.

#6 - Jacob Zeno, UAB

I recently mentioned Zeno during an article on super sleepers I expect to be available next April. He was incredibly accurate during his first season as a full-time starter as well as very productive. Zeno lacks the physical dimensions of the quarterbacks mentioned on this list, but he has the arm strength and accuracy to be a Sunday starter.
