$39,150,000 Ex-49ers star gives HC Kyle Shanahan reality check after 35-10 'whooping' vs Bills
The San Francisco 49ers were handed a major loss under the bright lights of primetime football at Highmark Stadium as the Buffalo Bills delivered a 35-10 beating under true football conditions.
And that wasn't even the worst thing that happened to the Niners. Tackle Trent Williams had to deal with a tragedy after his newborn son died two weeks ago.
The Niners had to deal with more strife against Buffalo after Christian McCaffrey suffered what appears to be a season-ending PCL injury, while backup running back Jordan Mason has also ended up on injured reserve with a high-ankle sprain.
Given the state of the 49ers' playoff chances, former 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman had more than a few things to say about the team. On his podcast, Sherman said:
"This one’s going to hurt. This is going to be tough questions later on in the season. What are you going to do with some of these guys. Whose salary you eat next year. Who they’re moving on from. If Christian McCaffrey’s injury hopefully isn’t serious."
Sherman also pointed out how many decisions Kyle Shanahan is going to face in the offseason after being 'whooped' by the Bills.
"You’re going to have to pay Brock Purdy in the offseason and figure out what that looks like. There’s so many questions that this kind of game and beating really puts into perspective for this team and fanbase who have had a tremendous amount of success over the last six years. It’s just unfortunate.
"Every season you’re not going to make the Super Bowl or the playoffs but when you have a team as talented as this, it’s just really disappointing when it doesn’t happen. Then you have games that end in this fashion. Green Bay beat you bad. Buffalo just whooped you."
Sherman, who had signed a $39.15 million deal with the 49ers, had a shot at the Super Bowl when they went up against Patrick Mahomes' Chiefs in 2020 when they two teams locked horns at Hard Rock Stadium. That game marked Mahomes' first Super Bowl win as they ended up 30-21 winners.
49ers RB Christian McCaffrey's father bemoans son's injury
Christian McCaffrey's father Ed, on Kay Adams' Up and Adams Show on Monday afternoon, gave some insight into how the family was taking the injury.
"Today is a tough one. I feel like someone reached their hand in my chest and pulled out my heart. Christian got hurt yesterday, and it was devastating," Ed McCaffrey said.
"When tragedy strikes you, you never really get over it. You never forget about it, but you do get through it. And that's what Christian will do, and that's what Lisa, and I will do."
