49ers legend Jerry Rice makes feelings known over Brock Purdy's future
It's been a disappointing season for Brock Purdy and the San Franciso 49ers. After appearing in the Super Bowl last season and being tabbed to repeat as Super Bowl favorites in the preseason, they're in last place in the NFC West.
One reason for San Fran's struggles this season is its injuries. They've had multiple running backs injured such as Christian McCaffrey and Jordan Mason. Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk suffered a season-ending injury and other stars such as EDGE Nick Bosa and tight end George Kittle have missed time for the 49ers this season.
Even with the injuries, 49ers legend Jerry Rice thinks Purdy still has to find ways to win despite the injuries.
Rice said via the Morning Roast:
“Brock can get better if you keep adding to the puzzle, so this guy doesn’t feel like he has to do it on his own on the football field... Everyone’s talking about injuries… you still have to find a way to win.”
Jerry Rice compares Brock Purdy to a few 49ers legends
San Francisco 49ers legend Jerry Rice earlier this year, before the 49ers faced the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, had a jab for Brock Purdy's critics.
Rice said:
"Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy, supposed to be that I guess game manager? That's what they keep saying. But I feel like he's an elite quarterback and I think we have a chance."
Later in the interview, Rice compared him to other 49ers icons.
“He makes plays, man, like a Montana, like a Steve Young. Just a down-to-earth person who wants to win. He’s going to do everything he can to get that victory.”
At 6-8, the 49ers have a mountain to climb to finish the season strong.
Do you think Purdy can turn things around next season?
