49ers star Brock Purdy might reset the QB market with a $325,000,000 deal, claims NFL expert

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has watched as Trevor Lawrence, Jared Goff and others have signed record-breaking deals this offseason. Based on the NFL's salary rules, Purdy must wait until after the regular season to lock in a new deal. One NFL analyst has predicted the quarterback's deal will trump all others when that time comes.

In a July 25 article on ESPN, NFL analyst Bill Barnwell wrote the following regarding Purdy's contract:

"If he continues this level of play, my best estimate is that a Purdy deal would come in around five years and $325 million, for an average of $65 million per season."

That would be $10 million more per season than Trevor Lawrence and Joe Burrow, who are tied for the top salary in the league. However, the deal's total value falls well short of Super Bowl rival Patrick Mahomes' 10-year, $450 million contract.

Barnwell also addressed the potential for a team-friendly discount. But considering his currently cheap deal that has produced only $2.6 million in three years, Purdy has little reason to help out his team.

In his career, the 49ers QB has thrown for 44 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He has played in just a season and a half but has already crossed into territory that most QBs do not. He had an impressive rookie outing. But instead of shrinking in response to better-prepared defenses in 2023, he got even better.

With so many boxes checked off, the 49ers have little choice but to call him their franchise QB and provide Purdy's net worth a massive spike.

The 49ers QB appears to be on the way to a massive new deal after 2024. However, a different scenario could occur, ruining the events that led to Purdy's opportunity.

On "The TK Show," Kyle Shanahan revealed he was interested in bringing Tom Brady out of retirement to take over for Purdy. Shanahan had desired Brady before this as well. After the 2022 season, it was unclear whether Purdy would be available due to an elbow injury suffered in the playoffs.

"I did wanna reach out to Tom. Tom was the only guy I was willing to ride in and risk with Brock’s injuries," Shanahan said.

Of course, Brady never took over and Purdy started the season on time. However, had the San Francisco 49ers elected to go with Brady, the Purdy experiment would have been delayed and potentially even ended later.

Instead, the team is on deck to pay Purdy his first big-money deal in the NFL.
