6x Eagles Pro Bowler torches $112,500,000 Aaron Rodgers as Jets spiral into 5-game losing streak: "Could've stayed with Zach Wilson"
There were high hopes for the New York Jets when they traded for quarterback Aaron Rodgers in 2023. Those hopes quickly faded as the quarterback suffered an Achilles injury just a few minutes into the Week 1 matchup against the Buffalo Bills last season.
Despite last year's injury, Jets fans were still excited for the 2024 NFL season. Those hopes quickly dwindled as well.
The New York Jets have now lost five straight games, fired head coach Robert Saleh and traded for wide receiver Davante Adams. Yet, there is yet to be an improvement in the production on the field.
Former NFL running back LeSean McCoy said on FS1's "The Facility" on Monday morning that he feels the team wasted time and money with the moves they made. McCoy said they could have just stayed with Zach Wilson and gotten the same result.
"You talk about making a team better. You go out there, you got the Jets go down to Green Bay to get Aaron Rodgers, thought he was making the team better. They're not. All you did was waste time and you waste a lot of money ... And you could have just stayed with Zach Wilson ... it's the same guy. All you did was you had way more hype this year. You gave way more money, after all these different players, and y'all still not winning, that's a regret."-LeSean McCoy said on "The Facility"
Aaron Rodgers was bought by the Jets in a trade with the Green Bay Packers last year. The celebrated quarterback signed a three-year, $112.5 million restructured contract with his new team. This was supposed to uplift the Packers' performance, but that hope has been dashed badly.
QB Zach Wilson's stats vs. Aaron Rodgers' stats with Jets
The New York Jets traded former first-round draft pick Zach Wilson this past offseason. Wilson started 11 games last season as Aaron Rodgers recovered from an Achilles injury.
Despite the success he had with the Green Bay Packers and his five NFL MVP awards, Rodgers has not been able to turn things around for the New York Jets.
Through eight games last season, Zach Wilson and the Jets were 4-4. Rodgers and the Jets are 2-6 through the first eight games this season.
As the New York Jets' starting quarterback for three seasons, Zach Wilson had a 35% winning percentage. Aaron Rodgers has a 33% winning percentage as the Jets starter.
In 11 starts last season, Zach Wilson had 2,271 passing yards, eight passing touchdowns and seven interceptions. In nine career games with the Jets, Rodgers has 1,896 passing yards and 12 touchdowns with seven interceptions.
While Rodgers has more touchdowns and the same number of interceptions, his winning percentage is not as high as Wilson's thus far.
