“Let’s read Aaron Donald’s contract” – Kanye West makes bizarre call on Rams star’s $95 million deal amid anti-Semitism row
Aaron Donald signed with rapper Kanye West's Donda Sports in May this year, the first athlete to do so. However, the Los Angeles Rams star's contract was mentioned by West in a recent interview with journalist Piers Morgan. Morgan questioned the rapper on recent antisemitic tweets and comments he made.
West responded by saying he wouldn't discuss the topic until he could help re-negotiate particular deals, including the seven-time All-Pro's deal.
West said:
"When I sit down with the people who write out the contracts for the NBA, the NFL, and for professional music, and for acting contracts. We need to go to the top lawyers, the top execs, the owners of the stadiums, the owners of the football teams, and the owners of the record labels, and we’re gonna put them all in one room. And we’ll go top-10 in each of these categories. Let’s read Michael B. Jordan’s contract. Let’s read Aaron Donald’s contract—”
In June, the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year signed a restructured contract with $65 million guaranteed over the next two seasons. He'll make $95 million through the 2024-2025 season with the Rams.
As for the interview, the rest of West's comments on the Los Angeles superstar couldn't be heard. However, both the rapper and NFL star bonded closer. The defensive tackle said Donda Sports is interested in his brand and marketing interests, not his contract with the Rams.
Donald said:
“Hearing the whole spectrum of what they were going to be bringing, the whole family atmosphere that they got in Donda Sports. Not just me, but my wife being a part of that. For me, [signing with Donda Sports] was a no-brainer.”
The talent agency CAA has dropped West because of his anti-Semitic comments. The question is will the Super Bowl-winning superstar leave Donda Sports?
Will Aaron Donald exit Donda Sports after West's anti-Semitic comments?
Donald, he's the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, which was negotiated by West and Donda Sports. In an interview with the I Am Athlete podcast, the 2014 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year said West is "a cool dude." However, that sentiment must be different for the former first-round selection out of Pittsburgh.
West's comments have no place in our society, and now Donald is facing a decision to leave Donda Sports. Although both grew close together, West's rant could be the thing to break that bond with the 31-year-old Rams superstar. Let's see what the eight-time Pro Bowler's response will be.
