Aaron Donald addresses Donda Sports exit amid Kanye West’s inflammatory anti-Semitism
Aaron Donald was the first athlete to sign with rapper Kanye West's Donda Sports in May. The Los Angeles Rams' star defensive tackle has decided to exit Donda Sports amid West's anti-Semitic comments.
Donald spoke with the media regarding his decision to leave West's sports agency. Earlier in the week, the seven-time All-Pro and his wife, Erica, released a statement explaining why he left Donda Sports.
“Our family has made the decision to part ways with Donda Sports. The recent comments and displays of hate and antisemitism are the exact opposite of how we choose to live our lives and raise our children. We find them to be irresponsible and go against everything we believe in as a family."
“As parents and members of society, we felt a responsibility to send a clear message that hateful words and actions have consequences and that we must do better as human beings. We do not feel our beliefs, voices, or actions belong anywhere near a space that misrepresents and oppresses people of any background, ethnicity or race."
The statement concluded:
“We’ve had the pleasure of working with many incredible people along the way and hope to continue to use our platform to uplift and support other families, children, and communities through positive outreach.”
In a recent interview, West alluded to Donald's contract that he signed back in June. The eight-time Pro Bowler signed a restructured contract with $65 million guaranteed over the next two seasons. Donald will make $95 million through the 2024-2025 season.
When the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year initially signed with Donda Sports, he was very optimistic.
The Rams star said:
“Hearing the whole spectrum of what they were going to be bringing, the whole family atmosphere that they got in Donda Sports."
