"Aaron Glenn will not start off his career with Aaron Rodgers" - Ex-Jets WR drops bold prediction for new head coach
The New York Jets have a new head coach: Aaron Glenn. According to one of his former teammates, Glenn might begin his tenure by making a significant change at a critical position.
The hiring was announced Wednesday, with the former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator expressing his excitement about returning to the team where he spent the first eight seasons of his playing career. Glenn shared the following message during his introductory press conference:
"To our players, prepare to be coached with everything we have. That is our responsibility. I ask that we share the same vision and that's working towards winning a championship. To our fans, simply put, expect a winning team that you will be proud of."
However, former wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson, who played alongside Glenn from 1996 to 1999, believes quarterback Aaron Rodgers will not be part of the coach's vision. On Wednesday's edition of "Speak" on FS1, Johnson said the multiple-time MVP would be incompatible with Glenn's culture:
"The Jets situation is phenomenal. They got players ... He's going to challenge his players just like he did as a defender. He will not start off his career with Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback in September. He's not going to allow somebody to tell him what he's doing."
Who will the Jets' QB be in 2025?
This raises the question: who will quarterback the Jets in 2025 if not Aaron Rodgers?
Fox Sports’ Ralph Vacchiano predicts the team’s new general manager could take two key steps. The first is signing former divisional rival Mac Jones in free agency.
"Jones played well late in the season in an awful situation in Jacksonville, filling in for the injured Trevor Lawrence," Vacchiano said.
"He's still a former first-round pick, and he showed signs that, with good coaching, there's still talent there. So he could be a good stop-gap guy for a team that needs to start over with young arms."
The former New England Patriot started seven of 10 games with the Jaguars, completing 171 of 262 attempts for 1,672 yards, eight touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also rushed 28 times for 92 yards and one touchdown.
The second move Vacchiano predicts is drafting Jaxson Dart. After serving as a freshman backup at USC, Dart transferred to Ole Miss in 2022, where he showed significant improvement each season.
As a senior, he completed 276 of 398 attempts for 4,279 yards and 29 touchdowns against six interceptions. He also rushed 124 times for 495 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Rebels to a 10-3 record, including bowl victories over Mississippi State and Duke.
