Aaron Rodgers breaks silence after Jets crash out of playoffs for 14th straight year
Aaron Rodgers has spoken up. For the 14th time straight, the New York Jets' playoff drought continues. Although the team's veteran QB performed well, the Jets fell short in a 32-26 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
“The expectations were high. We didn’t reach them. Not even close," the 41-year-old said, according to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.
Rodgers was signed by the New York Jets following his trade from the Green Bay Packers with a lot of hope. The team expected the Super Bowl-winning QB to end the franchise’s playoff curse after his arrival.
The New York Jets' last playoff appearance was in 2010, and the drought is the longest across all major U.S. sports (NFL, NHL, NBA, WNBA and MLB).
The Jets (3-10) have four more games left to be played.
- Week 15: December 15 against Jacksonville Jaguars
- Week 16: December 22 against Los Angeles
- Week 17: December 29 against Buffalo Bills
- Week 18: TBD-Flex Game against Miami Dolphins
Aaron Rodgers had his first 300-yard since 2021
A 10-yard touchdown pass from Tua Tagovailoa to Jonnu Smith helped the Dolphins edge out against the Jets in overtime on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers had his first 300-yard passing game in nearly three years. It took him 34 starts to again achieve that feat. However, it wasn’t enough to stop the Dolphins.
Despite lingering injuries to his ankle, hamstring and knee since Week 4, Rodgers has shown flashes of the brilliance that once defined his NFL career.
For now, as the Jets look to regroup, the questions about the long-term viability of their current roster are bound to be asked.
Talking about Aaron Rodgers' contract with the Jets, he signed a $112,500,000 deal, including $75,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $37,500,000. A-Rod is signed till 2025. He has four void years through 2029. However, there's no kind of guaranteed money available here.
The veteran QB's future is set to be a hot topic in the coming months. Although he hasn’t decided if he’ll continue playing next year, if he does, staying with the Jets would be his first choice.
