Aaron Rodgers clears the air about his health as QB ends losing streak in Week 9 comeback vs Texans
Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets snapped their five-game losing streak with a gritty 21-13 win over the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football. They improved to 3-6 and climbed to second in the AFC East standings but remain well off the pace for the division title and a playoff spot.
The veteran quarterback had one of his best games as a Jet, finishing with 211 passing yards and three touchdowns. On his weekly appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," the 40-year-old claimed that his improved display was due to his improving physical condition. He revealed that he had been nursing an injury since their Week 4 loss to the Broncos but is finally feeling healthy.
When asked how his body felt and what he planned to do over the weekend, Rodgers said:
"Body feels pretty good, yeah, I'm not going to do much. Probably just pound some drinks. A lot of drinks. Water and raw coconut water and still enjoy myself. But I might venture out to the city one of these nights, but I'll be relaxed, taking care of my body and getting ready to hopefully feel 100% for next week, because I haven't really been 100% since Week 4, so be nice to little bit better."
In the Jets' Week 4 loss to the Broncos, Rodgers was sacked five times and hit 14 times. He was still reeling from the after-effects of that brutal outing but is feeling healthy again, which is terrific news for New York, who need him to elevate his game.
Aaron Rodgers stats: QB's rough campaign so far
Through nine games this season, Aaron Rodgers has 2,107 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions. It's an underwhelming return from a player of his caliber and explains why the Jets are averaging the second-fewest points per game this season.
New York will likely have to run the table to stand a chance of making it to the playoffs, which is possible, considering their remaining schedule is the fifth-easiest in the league. However, their quarterback and the offense will have to improve their production.
It remains to be seen whether Rodgers and the Jets can bounce back in the second half of the campaign and earn a playoff berth or continue to struggle and endure a disappointing season.
