Aaron Rodgers’ ex-teammate fans the flames over Jordan Love’s holdout with Packers

Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers are involved in a situation right before the start of training camp. On Monday, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst declared that, unless they can find an agreement, Love isn't going to practice with the team.

That's not to say that Jordan Love is away from meetings and, necessarily, holding out from Green Bay - he'll be present at the facilities and, yes, even watch practice. But he won't be taking part in it, avoiding the risk of an injury before he has his new deal under wraps.

Former Packers tackle David Bakhtiari, who spent most of his career with Green Bay playing with Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback, added a little spice to the table. Knowing first-hand how the franchise deals with their players, he revealed that he was curious to know what they offered to Love and defensive tackle Kenny Clark to begin negotiations.

Kenny Clark's name is mentioned because, on Sunday, the team also signed the star defensive tackle to a contract extension. Clark's new deal added three years and $64 million, as the Packers try to control their salary cap before adding a huge contract extension with their quarterback.

Could Jordan Love’s contract rank among NFL’s top 5 highest-paid QBs?

The quarterback is likely asking for a deal close to the $55 million per year contract extension given to Trevor Lawrence in recent weeks, and frankly, he has a point. The salary cap rose way more than expected in 2024, and this opened up new avenues for teams.

Not even the most optimistic Packers fan would be sure that Jordan Love would end the year the way he did: putting the team on his shoulders and playing at a very high level. Even more so if we take into account the first half of the regular season, with the quarterback being terrible at the deep throws and suffering interceptions all over the place. He improved massively.

Love proved himself to be a quarterback capable of leading Green Bay for the next decade. With his age, recent play, and the fact that his 2023 extension was cheap, he's asking for a lot of money and he has enough reasons to get it.

Top 5 is not only achievable but extremely likely; don't be surprised if he ends up as the highest-paid quarterback in the league.
