Aaron Rodgers fans ready to move on? Justin Fields outperforms former MVP in Wisconsin
Since the end of the 2000s, Aaron Rodgers has been one of the biggest names in the sport. With that comes various trappings and benefits, including being a leader in jersey sales, especially in one's own state. However, that perk fell through for the Green Bay Packers quarterback.
Not only did it fall, but it went to another rival. According to Sports Illustrated, Justin Fields owned the leading spot in jersey sales for 2022 in the state of Wisconsin, the home of the Packers. The revelation comes in a year when three of the teams in the division finished either above .500 or within one win of that mark.
That is, all teams aside from the Chicago Bears, who went 3-14 and now own the top spot in the NFL Draft. Many have speculated that this means the team has less interest in the quarterback than ever before, after years of No. 12 openly flirting with retirement.
Will Aaron Rodgers play in 2023?
Additionally, with the team missing the playoffs in a season full of more downs than fans are accustomed to, many may have lost interest.
Recent offseason drama slowly primes Aaron Rodgers fans to turn the channel
At first, when No. 12 brought up retirement around the turn of the 20s, the news was gripping and had fans and pundits talking at length about it. From rumored trade requests, retirement threats, and other revelations, the quarterback had fans on the edge of their seats between February and August.
However, after years of offseason drama, Aaron Rodgers fans were greeted with a slump once the regular season arrived in 2022. After three straight seasons of 13 wins, the team finished 8-9, falling just short of reaching the playoffs.
Now emotionally exhausted, some pundits and fans have reached a point where they're ready to move on with a new era.
Will the Green Bay Packers finally cut ties with their quarterback or will he beat them to the punch with retirement?
