Aaron Rodgers gets blunt on Jets teammates who are "ready to get out" after 19-9 loss to Rams
Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets' limp to the end of the 2024 season continued in Week 16 as they suffered a 19-9 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday at MetLife Stadium. This was their 10th loss in their last 12 games, and they are now guaranteed to finish with a worse record than last year.
They led 9-6 until the fourth quarter but gave up 13 unanswered points in the final 13 minutes of the game. Unsurprisingly, Rodgers, who finished with 256 passing yards, six rushing yards and one touchdown pass, wasn't pleased with the effort.
In a scathing indictment of his teammates in his post-game press conference, the veteran quarterback called them out and claimed that a few have downed their tools and have given up on the season. When asked whether he was finding it difficult to keep the positivity up inside the locker room, Rodgers said:
“We are kinda past keeping positive. It's about perspective... Your perspective is something you can change every single day… It’s not to change the reality of the situation, being 4-11, out of the playoffs, going into an unknown offseason. You gotta figure out what it means to be a professional. That’s an important part of building culture. The last two weeks we can really see who’s on board moving forward and who is ready to get out.”
Aaron Rodgers to leave the Jets in 2025?
While Aaron Rodgers believes some of his teammates are ready to move from the Jets to greener pastures in the offseason, the quarterback's future with the team is up in the air.
Last month, ESPN's Dianna Russini claimed that owner Woody Johnson wanted to bench Rodgers but was talked out of it by general manager Joe Douglas, who has since been fired. She claimed that the team was parting ways with the 41-year-old quarterback either midway through the season or at the end of the campaign.
Rodgers has been open about his desire to stay with the Jets beyond this season but the decision about his future is not in his hands. The four-time MVP is unsure where he'll play next season if he's released. For now, he's focused on finishing the season strong before figuring out what the future holds.
