Aaron Rodgers lists 4 rules to a lasting career in the NFL
Aaron Rodgers has won the MVP four times and he offered advice to future players who might want to have a career as successful as his in the NFL. The quarterback is struggling with the Jets this season, but there is no doubt he is a future Hall-of-Famer.
He highlighted four points on "The Pat McAfee Show," that he believes are prerequisites for success in professional football, namely:
- Put the team first
- No excuses & no complaining
- Be on time & be prepared
- Be a good teammate
Measuring Aaron Rodgers' Jets career against his own advice
#1 - Put the team first
Aaron Rodgers is a very good quarterback and when there was talk about him possibly leaving the Green Bay Packers for another team, he said that he was looking to find the right situation. However, the situation he was looking for was not to win the Super Bowl as a team, but to add to his MVP collection.
He already has four awards and another one will put him up level with Peyton Manning. Considering he is unlikely to reach Tom Brady's record of seven Super Bowl victories, he perhaps wants to aim for a record that will put him on the top of the pile in at least one category. It must be noted that the MVP is an individual award whereas the Super Bowl belongs to the entire team.
#2 - No excuses & no complaining
Though Aaron Rodgers has strenuously denied having any hand in former head coach Robert Saleh's firing, it must be said that the head coach lost his job because the quarterback is not playing at an elite level this season. He now has a new interim head coach and the front office has worked hard to get Davante Adams, his top target in his final years in Green Bay, to the Jets. There should be no excuse why New York is 3-7 in 2024.
#3 - Be on time & be prepared
Aaron Rodgers missed mandatory minicamp this year because he had planned a trip to Egypt at that time. While the dates were perhaps decided after he had finalized his itinerary, it was galling to see the quarterback give up on the chance to connect with his teammates after a year of being sidelined with a torn Achilles.
#4 - Be a good teammate
A month back when the Jets lost to the Bills after Aaron Rodgers was intercepted during the two-minute warning, the quarterback blamed teammate Mike Williams for running the wrong route.
The wide receiver was since shipped off to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he caught the game-winning touchdown from Russell Wilson in his first game.
