Aaron Rodgers probably wishes that Jeopardy gig worked out following tough loss against Lions
Aaron Rodgers struggled severely Sunday afternoon against the Detroit Lions. His Green Bay Packers entered the day at 3-5, needing a win to stay in the thick of the postseason race as the season arrives at its halfway point. Instead, he tossed three interceptions in a 15-9 loss to a one-win Lions team.
Overall, it was a nightmare for the legend. He had 20 incompletions in addition to his three picks and could not stop giving the ball away in the red zone. The game came to a merciful end with a pass that landed near no one in particular to give Detroit the win.
The Packers are now 3-6 in a division led by the 7-1 Minnesota Vikings. A Wild Card berth is still not out of the question, but at this point, fans are left wondering if Rodgers coming back for the 2022-23 season was even a good idea.
Aaron Rodgers may be having second thoughts
There was a time not too long ago when the quarterback was flirting with the idea of becoming a game show host instead of returning to Green Bay. But the team countered by giving him a $150 million deal over the next three years. Money was swiftly used to smooth over any issues between the quarterback and the front office.
Yet concerning signs have emerged, capped off with this latest loss. Green Bay has now lost five in a row to go from 3-1 to 3-6. In that span, Rodgers has failed to throw for more than 291 yards in a single game. That 291 total came against the Lions, in a game where he also led the team in rushing with a meager 40 yards.
Losing Davante Adams continues to haunt him, but three interceptions are inexcusable for the quarterback, regardless of who is lining up at receiver. Wideout Allen Lazard led the way with four receptions on 10 targets.
The Packers drafted Jordan Love in 2020 to become the next quarterback after Rodgers. But then the veteran won consecutive MVP awards, making it difficult for the team to move on. Now, both sides may be hoping the original plan is still in place as things may only get worse from here. Hosting a game show would involve much less stress for the aging signal-caller.
