Aaron Rodgers recalls emotions before learning about Davante Adams-Jets trade - "My heart dropped"

Aaron Rodgers revealed how he found out about the Davante Adams trade that brought the wide receiver from the Raiders to the Jets. Having begun the season with a commitment to play for Las Vegas, the situation deteriorated to a point where Davante Adams requested a trade.

And when it went down, the wide receiver called Aaron Rodgers at around 12:15 a.m. in the morning. Having lost the previous night to the Buffalo Bills, the quarterback did not feel like taking the call. However, he knew that other teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New Orleans Saints were courting the former Raiders star. The latter was particularly enticing since Davante Adams had played in Las Vegas with Derek Carr.

The wide receiver, though, chose to call his former Packers teammate and convey that he was getting on a plane, which caused the quarterback's heart to drop. As Aaron Rodgers recollected:

"I got a call at like, 12:15 [AM] from [him]. I didn't answer. I wasn't in the mood... I knew that there was conversations, but I knew there were other teams involved. So I literally found out at, you know, close to one o'clock in the morning when he said he was getting on a plane, and I would just kind of my heart dropped."

Upon further enquiry, the former Raiders wideout revealed that he was going to New York to team up with his former Green Bay quarterback. The Jets star revealed how their conversation went:

"And I was like, to where? And he said, New York. I was like, Really? I knew there was interest, but I knew that there was a lot of other things in play, and that other teams that were interested as well."

Davante Adams plays up Aaron Rodgers link in first public appearance as Jets player

The reason Davante Adams joined the Jets has a lot to do with Aaron Rodgers also playing there. The two enjoyed massive success together with the Packers and the wide receiver was keen to play up the link the moment when he arrived in New York. The first indication of that was when he appeared via video link with the quarterback on the Pat McAfee show.

The wideout is arriving in a situation that is volatile with New York having a 2-4 record and playing under an interim head coach. But his relationship with the quarterback is expected to help the Jets and again start the rumblings about whether they are a genuine Super Bowl contender this season.
