Aaron Rodgers reveals how he had Jordan Love’s back recalling his experience playing behind Brett Favre

In 2020, the Green Bay Packers traded up to draft quarterback Jordan Love, who would eventually replace Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers, who was picked in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Packers, spent three seasons behind Brett Favre before taking over as the team's starting quarterback.

Love followed a similar path as Rodgers, being selected in the first round and serving as a backup. Like Rodgers, Love was a backup for three seasons before he took over as the team's quarterback.

Upon arriving in Green Bay, Love was greeted with open arms by Rodgers, who gave the rookie some advice in 2020. Rodgers revealed that he had Love's back and tried to make his situation as good as possible by talking about his experience as a backup to begin his career.

“‘Look, man, I know it’s not the ideal situation right away for you, but I know what it’s like to be in your position ... We’re gonna have some fun together. I’m gonna help you out.’ So just trying to alleviate any nerves he might have. I was in that position, so I knew it wasn’t his fault. He didn’t ask to be picked by the Packers,” Rodgers said via The Athletic.

It paid off (literally) for Jordan Love to be Aaron Rodgers' backup for three seasons.

After the team traded Rogers to the New York Jets last off-season, Love was officially named the team's starting quarterback. In 2023, Love went 9-8 as the team's starting quarterback while leading the Packers to the playoffs as a wildcard team.

Love had an impressive season as a full-time starter, throwing for 4,159 yards and finishing second in touchdown passes with 32. With the quarterback market growing exponentially each season in the last few years, Love was one of a few quarterbacks this off-season to receive a lucrative contract extension.

Love and the Packers agreed on a $220 million, four-year extension. His contract pays him $55 million per year, tied for the highest-paid player in NFL history alongside Trevor Lawrence and Joe Burrow.

With Love extended and after leading the Packers to the playoffs last season, he is expected to put his money where his mouth is and is expected to carry Green Bay to success.
