Aaron Rodgers’ stance on Davante Adams could benefit Raiders WR financially, claims NFL analyst
Davante Adams has been caught in a whirlwind ever since his former QB, Aaron Rodgers, expressed interest in reuniting with him. However, former Super Bowl winner coach turned analyst Michael Lombardi thinks this attention could end up benefiting Adams.
The wide receiver was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2014 and enjoyed eight seasons with Rodgers. However, contract disputes led him to switch to the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022.
One year later, Rodgers also left for the New York Jets and recently conveyed his desire to reunite with Davante Adams. Even though Adams’ agent brushed aside this notion, analyst Lombardi believes Aaron Rodgers might have done a favor to Adams.
On Wednesday, Lombardi appeared on ESPN’s ‘Pat McAfee Show’ and said:
“There's that trade rumor where Aaron Rodgers walked off the golf course and he said, ‘I'm looking forward to play with the Davante Adams again’. And that created the stir which Davante Adams’ agent quickly squashed.
“But there is a conversation that needs to be had between Davante and the Raiders because the wide receiver market has exploded and Davante sitting there saying, ‘What about me?’”
Lombardi aptly points out that Adams’ $29 million per year deal has been overshadowed with the likes of Justin Jefferson now making $35 million per year. It could be the perfect opportunity for the 31-year-old to get a new contract, despite having almost three years left on his previous deal.
Davante Adams wants to play with Tom Brady
While the world is interested in Davante Adams reuniting with Aaron Rodgers, the Raiders WR has his heart set on another great QB. During his appearance on ‘Club Shay Shay’ podcast, Adams revealed he would want Tom Brady to join the Raiders.
“You talk about how old he is, I don't care. 58. Tom knows how I feel about it man, and I think I'd be the first person I played with Tom and Aaron. That'd be pretty cool.”
Tom Brady is currently in preparation for starting his broadcasting job with Fox Sports and has no plans to unretire. However, he will be joining the Raiders’ front office as a minority owner pretty soon.
