Aaron Rodgers struggles in back-to-back Jets training camp practices as frustration mounts for 4x MVP: Report
Four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers was reported to have struggled in his second preseason practice session in as many days. ESPN's Rich Cimini reported on Tuesday that Rodgers (10 of 21 completed) and his offense received four pressures, a mistimed play, a dropped pass, a miscommunicated pass that led to another heated altercation, and a botched pitch, among others:
That was after he suffered the ignominies of being intercepted once and stepped on by one of his offensive linemen during a handoff yesterday.
Aaron Rodgers unlikely to play Jets' 2024 preseason games, says HC
When preseason games roll around, expect an Aaron Rodgers absence.
Head coach Robert Saleh told reporters on Tuesday that his quarterback would not play the first two games against the Washington Commanders and Carolina Panthers:
"My instinct is no, but I want to leave it open. That third game is what we're deciding."
Still, he is confident that Rodgers will get sufficient preparation ahead of the regular season:
"Those preseason practices are so game-like. The only difference is you're not tackling. And so we feel comfortable that we're getting the reps we need, the game-like reps we need in a controlled environment."
Jets OC has nothing but praise for Aaron Rodgers despite struggles
Elsewhere, one cohort of Rodgers believes that he is still a great player even as he is still searching for his footing in camp: offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. He said:
"He's just how he's always been. He loves the game, he loves practice. When he gets out there with the guys, he has so much fun, he wants to do so many things with them and see the different things they can do, what they can handle. He's a coach out on the field, so I just see him out on the field enjoying the heck out of it."
The Jets' regular season begins at the San Francisco 49ers on September 9.
