Aaron Rodgers takes dig at Bears as Caleb Williams-led team's struggles continue
Aaron Rodgers might have left the Green Bay Packers, but his relationship with the franchise is never going to change. The Packers drafted Rodgers and had the quarterback for almost two decades, and although he now plays for the New York Jets, a Super Bowl win and many great seasons will never be forgotten.
What is also never going to be forgotten is how Aaron Rodgers owned the Chicago Bears while he played for the Packers. He boasts a 24-5 record in his career against the Illinois franchise, which struggled to fix its franchise quarterback position for a long time before drafting Caleb Williams first overall.
Now, with Rodgers playing in the AFC and Chicago with a gem at quarterback, one would think that the level of respect for the Bears would grow. But Aaron is not interested. During his weekly Tuesday appearance at Pat McAfee's show, he noted that "the NFC North has three great teams", explicitly excluding the Bears from the list.
The NFC North is the strongest division in the NFL in 2024. The Detroit Lions are 7-1, the Minnesota Vikings are 6-2 and the Green Bay Packers are 6-3, and no other division has three teams with a positive record. The Chicago Bears are also a playoff candidate with a current 4-4 record.
Why does Aaron Rodgers resent the Packers?
He was traded by the Green Bay Packers after a decade and a half with the team, but just one Super Bowl win, which left scars late into their relationship. Going to the Jets was a chance to prove himself once again in a bigger market, but disaster struck quickly.
As the team used a first-round pick in Jordan Love while the quarterback was still there, the relationship began to strain. He was searching for the second Super Bowl of his career, and felt as if the Packers could've use a first-round pick to help them make it to the big game. In 2019, Green Bay was just one game away from the Super Bowl.
After three years, he was finally moved to another team, while Love took the reins from 2023 onwards. It worked out well for both sides, as the quarterback has reunited with Davante Adams in New York while the team found its new franchise quarterback.
