Aaron Rodgers' teammate breaks silence on rampant Davante Adams to Jets trade speculation

Where there's smoke, there's fire. And when it comes to the New York Jets potentially trading for Davante Adams, there appears to be a whole lot of smoke this week.

It all started when a reporter caught up with Aaron Rodgers at the American Century Championship in Nevada. In response to an innocuous question on how Luke Getsy could get the best out of Davante Adams in his first year as Raiders OC, Rodgers replied:

"I love Luke Getsy, he's a fantastic coach. I love Davante. Can’t wait to play with him… again.”

The Davante Adams to Jets trade speculation skyrocketed from there.

Over the weekend, Fox News caught up with Garrett Wilson at a youth football camp. There, the Jets wide receiver was asked for his thoughts on all the speculation linking Adams with a reunion with his former quarterback. Wilson said:

"I see that. I’m excited. I’m with all of it. Anyone we can get into the facility to help this team win games, I’m with it, and he’s one of those."

Boomer Esiason sets potential timeline on Davante Adams trade to Jets

In an appearance on the Up and Adams Show this week, Boomer Esiason said he's hearing whispers of a potential deal between the Raiders and the Jets. Esiason said on the show:

“The dead cap for the Raiders this year is $40 million [if they trade him]. I’m hearing that this is gonna happen - if it does happen - in late August or early September. And the cap hit for him is $25 million."

Former Detroit Lions quarterback Dan Orlovsky echoed that sentiment on ESPN's Get Up this morning. Orlovsky said:

"I think Davante Adams plays for the Jets this season. The reason why I say that is this. Have you watched Netflix’s Receiver? Have you seen the frustration from Davante Adams? It’s not that much better of a situation."

The ESPN analyst believes the only sticking point will be Adams potentially feeling bad about leaving Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce in the lurch owing to the "loyalty of a competitor."

On the Jets' situation, he added:

"You’ve already gone in, you have to make this work. If you don’t win the Super Bowl, this is going to be one of the more disappointing acquisitions and runs and wasted talented teamsewe’ve seen in the NFL in many years."
