Aaron Rodgers trade: AFC Executive highlights what's delaying Packers-Jets negotiations
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has already made up his mind about playing for the New York Jets next season. The franchise is also willing to let Rodgers go, but there has been an impasse over the trade negotiations.
The Packers are unhappy with the Jets' offer for the four-time NFL MVP, which is why the negotiations have dragged on. An AFC executive recently explained why the Jets are not giving up their draft picks to get Rodgers.
As per Albert Breer, here's what the AFC Executive said.
"I think we’re all getting a little smarter, just in how business is done,” the executive said. “We’re not giving up as many assets for a depreciating asset, or something you don’t need, or slight improvement.
"Teams don’t want to give up the cost. There’s more value in the picks, it’s cheaper labor, and it keeps you from overpaying for something.”
Nobody knows how long Rodgers will play in the NFL, which is why the New York Jets don't want to offer multiple first-round picks for him. Since they know that Rodgers wants to play for them, the AFC East team has the leverage over the Green Bay Packers.
The Packers want to move Rodgers quickly to give Jordan Love a chance, but they aren't willing to let the veteran quarterback walk for free. It will be interesting to see what offer the Packers end up accepting.
Aaron Rodgers will be under a lot of pressure in New York
There is little doubt that once Aaron Rodgers arrives in New York, all eyes will be on him. There will be a lot of pressure on the Packers quarterback because they believe he can immediately save the organization and turn it into a Super Bowl contender.
Rodgers has never played in a big market, so the experience of playing for the Jets will be challenging for him. The Packers quarterback has had his fair share of media encounters, which may increase once he gets traded.
Last season, Rodgers had a passer rating of 91.1 with 3,695 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 17 games while missing out on the playoffs.
Aaron Rodgers believes he still has a lot left in the tank and that with the right supporting cast, he can play at an elite level. The Jets have a terrific team that can maximize Rodgers' abilities, and they have a chance to do something exceptional next season.
