Adam Schefter claims Bears had “conversations” about benching Caleb Williams

The Caleb Williams era has gotten off to a rocky start. With the Bears firing offensive coordinator Shane Waldron this week, it is clear the team is unhappy with how things have gone on offense.

According to Adam Schefter, the Bears have considered another big move. On Thursday's edition of "Get Up," the NFL insider claimed there were "conversations" about giving Williams the Anthony Richardson treatment.

"There were conversations. I don't know how close they got. But yes, there were conversations about whether one of the solutions was to bench the quarterback, but to bench him to give him a break to try to save him from himself," Schefter said. [06:43:06:56][13.3]

Caleb Williams' Bears is riding a three-game losing streak. In the October 27 18-15 loss to the Washington Commanders, his offense scored just 15 points. In the November 3 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, his offense scored nine points. In his most recent game against the New England Patriots, Williams scored just three points.

He also hasn't thrown for a touchdown or completed at least 55% of his passes in a game since October 13th, when he threw for four touchdowns against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

With the offense cratering, Bears fans would likely prefer another team well under .500 with a leaky defense to help Williams get back on track. Instead, their next game comes against the Green Bay Packers (6-3).

The Bears have beaten the Packers just once since December 17, 2015, per The Football Database.

When Caleb Williams was drafted and after the Bears loaded up their offensive roster, fans hoped the team could help flip the script on the rivalry. Instead, the Bears' offense may have run out of gas ahead of their game against the Packers.

Will the Bears stun the Packers, or whether another loss could force Caleb Williams to take the sidelines?
