Alvin Kamara gives one-word response to trade rumors after Saints' Week 7 loss
After the New Orleans Saints dropped to 2-5 in the season, star running back Alvin Kamara has been mentioned in several trade rumors. The veteran has been one of the best players on the team for several seasons, but amid a rocky season, some think his tenure with the Saints should come to an end.
Kamara shot down those rumors on X (formerly Twitter), using a one-word message to confirm his desire to stay as much time as possible with the NFC South squad.
"If anything, AK would like to find a way to finish his career here," reporter Nick Underhill tweeted.
"Correct," Kamara quote-tweeted Underhill's tweet.
This is an intriguing situation for the Saints, who were serious contenders for most of the 2010s. The issues began when their players started aging, and their contracts got bigger. Kamara was a part of those rosters, and although he remains a top player, some think the front office should cash in on his ability while he's playing at a high level.
New Orleans started the 2024 season, scoring 47 and 44 points in the first two weeks of competition before its level started decreasing. They have dropped five consecutive games to the Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons, Kansas City Chiefs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver Broncos.
NFL analyst says the Saints should trade Alvin Kamara after loss to Broncos
On Friday's edition of Pro Football Talk, Mike Florio said that the Saints should get rid of Alvin Kamara before his contract gets more expensive.
"Alvin Kamara is in the last year of his contract with the Saints. He's an asset that they can use to get a draft pick or two to reload for the future if he's not going to be there next year under his current contract. Now, you can still work out a revised contract, but there's no way they're keeping him under his current contract next year.
"He's a guy you have to, at least, and we know the phone rings. These GMs talk to each other all the time to see who's available and who's not. When the phone rings, you got to at least see what they're going to offer you. They should they should consider trading him." [0:30 mark]
While Rodney Harrison linked him with the Kansas City Chiefs, Kamara has said he doesn't plan to leave New Orleans, hopefully ever.
