Buccaneers QB Tom Brady reveals plans for life after football

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady is still playing professional football at the ripe age of 45. Unthinkable, but then again, Brady has made a living from doing the unthinkable.

While this season with Tampa Bay hasn't gone according to the script, in fact nor has his life outside of football, the quarterback remains focussed on trying to dig the Buccaneers out of their 3-5 hole. But what about after this season? Twenty-two years in professional sports is a serious achievement.

Brady's competitiveness has been his calling card. But in a recent chat with Dylan Dethier of golf.com, the 45-year-old said that after football, he won't be taking sports seriously at all.

Brady said:

“After my football career is over, I’m not going to take sports very seriously at all. It’ll just be for the pleasure and joy of playing them. I feel like I’ve got all my competitiveness out of me in sports.”
For the cover of this month's magazine, I talked to Tom Brady — and collected stories from people around him — about the sport he's played the longest: golf!

Surely we don't believe him, right? The kind of competitive edge that the quarterback has simply can't be turned off. Brady loves playing golf, which is well-known and even that can get a little heated.

But for now, we have to take his word for it. Perhaps he is right, after playing for so long in the professional football world, maybe all his competitive juices are no longer flowing. It does seem hard to fathom though, doesn't it?

Brady and Buccaneers in trouble

Baltimore Ravens vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Baltimore Ravens vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Sitting at a 3-5 record and behind the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC South, Tampa Bay is in strife. Most people's pick to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, if the Buccaneers can't sort out their issues, the playoffs will be off the agenda soon.

With the Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints all to come, the Buccaneers could see their playoff hopes dashed with five games remaining. Unthinkable.

But this is the seven-time Super Bowl champ. He has made a living out of proving people wrong. But such is the gravitiy of the current situation, if he does pull the Buccaneers out of this one, it could be one of his better achievements in football.

You simply just can't write him off, even after a disastrous start to the season. There is still time to steady the ship and get it back on track. They are only a game behind Atlanta and currently hold the tie-breaker.

But the margin for error is now so small that any slip-up is magnified.
