Andy Reid opens up on Chiefs' 3-peat hunt heading into 2024 NFL season

The mission for the 2024 NFL season is cut out for the Kansas City Chiefs and head coach Andy Reid – a three-peat. Coming off back-to-back Super Bowl victories, the Chiefs will be looking to create history by becoming the first team to win three straight Super Bowls.

Reid knows the path to achieve that. Speaking on The Athletic's newly launched "Scoop City" podcast, hosted by NFL Insider Dianna Russini and former Chiefs quarterback Chase Daniel, Reid appreciated the players' hard work in winning two Super Bowls and their aim for a third one:

"I don't think it's not not healthy, Reid said about Chiefs players aiming for three-peat. "I mean, it's a nice goal to put out there. It's hard to get one. And so these guys have busted their tail to get one. They busted their tail to get two.".

Reid continued, outlining the path and steps to achieve a three-peat. The Chiefs coach believes in structure and said that it all begins from the training camp:

"So the bottom line is that training camp thing that grounds you. You have to do this, this and this, before even thinking about getting to there [Super Bowl]. And so they've got to go through the process and I can take care of that part. And if they keep thinking that way, we're gonna do great things," he added.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid discusses impact of veteran players in quest for 3-peat

The Kansas City Chiefs are a dynasty. The team has achieved immense success in recent years, including four trips to the Super Bowl in the last five years and winning two of them. The Chiefs have managed to keep their core players Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Chris Jones together.

Speaking on the same show, Andy Reid said that being a dynasty doesn't change the hunger and the urgency level of the players. Reid mentioned that having veteran players makes his job easier as the Chiefs' head coach:

(from 29:28 mark onwards)

"I think you have so many more players that are coming back; that have been here and coming back," Reid said. "They kind of take that, and rather than me having to do all of the encouraging for the competition.
"Whether it's Pat [Patrick Mahomes] or Travis [Kelce], who's been here the whole time, Chris Jones, [Nick] Bolton, these guys they present a challenge for each other. And I think it's healthy, it's good for, but it's different than when I first got here," he added.

The Chiefs will begin their training camp in a few days, on July 21. The rookies are supposed to report to camp on July 16 while the veterans join them on July 20.
