Anthony Richardson breaks silence on regaining Colts' QB1 after being sidelined for two weeks

Anthony Richardson has been reinstated as the Indianapolis Colts' starting QB after his fall from grace. He voluntarily benched himself during the Houston Texans game because he was "tired".

But now, the Colts' experiment with Joe Flacco as the starting QB has ended. The 39-year-old veteran brought fresh hope to the team's loyal fanbase. However, his effect faded away significantly in the last two games, which the Colts ended up losing.

He expressed his feelings after it was announced that he would be the Colts' starting QB going forward.

“It just showed that I’m willing to be a pro and I’m willing to sacrifice anything that I need to do for the team,” Richardson told Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan.

Anthony Richardson added that he had learned a lot during the past two weeks and that it opened his eyes, allowing him to probe deeper within himself and see what he was made of.

Stating that he felt anything but bitter or angry, Richardson added:

"I’m thankful for these past two weeks and I’m low-key glad it happened.”

Steichen explains why he was reinstating Anthony Richardson as the starter

For starters, the Colts' HC said that he had never lost faith in his 22-year-old QB. He said that Richardson had proven to be an ace student and pointed out how he made strides by paying more attention to details, be it in the classroom, weight room, or during practice.

“The attention to detail in everything he does, from the classrooms, to the walk-throughs, to practice, to the weight room, all those little things, just have to be at a higher standard,” Steichen said.

Even though he admitted that he wasn't a fully finished product yet, he was getting there, and it was his job along with the rest of the Indy coaches to help him reach there and achieve his true potential.

Additionally, he said that being a young player, Anthony Richardson needed time to develop and fans' desire for instant gratification wasn't the way to go.

"You fight through these times. I love Anthony. He’s a great person. Got great faith in him and his abilities to be our franchise quarterback.”

As to how Joe Flacco took the change in his role, Steichen said that he understood the decision like an "ultimate pro."
