Anthony Richardson's OL gets concerning update during Colts training camp
Anthony Richardson played just four games in his rookie year in 2023 after sustaining a season-ending shoulder injury. The Indianapolis Colts quarterback will hope that his offensive line can support him better in the upcoming season. But things don't seem to have gotten off to a great start at the team's training camp.
After the Colts' second training camp session on Saturday, IndyStar's Nate Atkins reported that the team's offensive line looked mentally and physically rusty.
Earlier this month, PFF ranked the Colts' offensive line as the third-best in the league. Left tackle Bernhard Raimann, right tackle Braden Smith and center Ryan Kelly worked well last year. But it appears that they might need to up their game heading into the upcoming season.
Notably, Indianapolis' offensive line was the only dark cloud on the Colts' training camp session on Saturday. Defensive ends Kwity Paye and Laiatu Latu reportedly looked quick, while tight end Jelani Woods made all his catches. Wideout Anthony Gould also made some impressive grabs.
The Colts will have 10 more training camp sessions before their regular season begins. This should give Indy's offensive line some much-needed time to fine-tune its coordination before the all-important games roll in.
Colts coach Shane Steichen opens up on Anthony Richardson's rushing game
Indianapolis Colts coach Shane Steichen has insisted that Anthony Richardson won't be on limited rushing plays this season. Notably, the signal-caller suffered his season-ending shoulder injury last season during a rushing play against the Tennessee Titans in Week 5.
Steichen used an interesting analogy to describe Richardson's situation, drawing comparisons to NBA legend Steph Curry when he spoke to reporters on Thursday.
“People ask this a lot, like, ‘Hey, are you gonna limit the run game?’” Steichen said. “And I kind of think like, ‘Shoot, are you gonna limit Steph Curry from shooting 3-pointers?’ Well, that’s one of Anthony’s strengths, right? So we’re not gonna get away from that. That’s what he does well.”
In his four games last season, Richardson recorded 577 yards on 50 passes with three touchdowns. He also rushed for 136 yards and four touchdowns.
