Antonio Pierce stirs Davante Adams trade rumors by liking cryptic Instagram post on Raiders WR
Is Davante Adams done being a Raider? The star wideout, despite continuing to post thousand-yard seasons, has been hounded by at best middling quarterback play in Las Vegas. From Derek Carr to Jimmy Garropolo, then Aidan O'Connell, and now Gardner Minshew, he has often found his individual exploits undone by the mishaps of others.
And on Monday, a major hint towards a departure came: head coach Antonio Pierce liked an Instagram post of a Michael Fabiano quote insinuating that the six-time Pro Bowler might be traded out of the team in the middle of the season:
Adams did not play in the Week 4 win over the Browns because of a hamstring injury. His last outing was a miserable four-catch, 40-yard performance against the Carolina Panthers.
After the 36-22 loss, Pierce claimed that some players "did not show up". When asked if he was one of the comment's targets, Adams said:
“I feel like, I don’t know, this is tough for me to identify that. I’m not sure.”
Adam Schefter skeptical of Raiders trading Davante Adams
While Michael Fabiano hinted that Davante Adams' days as a Raider are over, fellow NFL insider Adam Schefter isn't too sure.
In an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday, the ESPN insider shut down the possibility of Adams joining the Chiefs, adding the Raiders didn't even consider trading Adams in the offseason.
"I don't see the Raiders trading him. I don't see that happening. Not right now, surely not to the Chiefs. The Raiders got multiple inquiries this summer and didn't even entertain the conversation."
While Schefter did add the caveat that things could change, he seems to think the Raiders believe they can turn things around with Adams.
Schefter ruled out the Chiefs as a potential Adams destination due to them being AFC West rivals, but as McAfee tried to suggest, the Jets could be a contender given his relationship with star quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Wide receiver-needy teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New York Giants could also be in play.
