Are the Broncos firing Nathaniel Hackett? NFL analyst claims HC ouster is inevitable with Russell Wilson still struggling
Russell Wilson is set to return as the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos in their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Wilson missed Week 7 and the Broncos lost again. With the situation deteriorating, if the Broncos lose in London again their head coach Nathaniel Hackett could be finished.
There is speculation that the Broncos owners have had enough of the team's struggles. If they fail to produce a positive result in London, Hackett could really be replaced. NFL analyst Chris Broussard also believes that Hackett could be fired if they fail to win against the Jaguars. Here's what Broussard said on First Things First:
"I'll say this if they lose, why not? Because he's getting fired sooner or later. We all know this. And I admit Russ hasn't helped him out for sure. But we know he's getting fired either after this game, later in the season, or after the season..."
Broussard continued:
"So what firing him would now would do is and it's a long shot, but it gives them a chance this season. Who thought Rich, besides you, was going to turn around the Raiders last year? I'm just, I'm not saying you count on it."
He concluded by saying:
"Maybe it will happen. I've had ex-NFL players tell me that Nathaniel Hackett lost that team after the first day. Yeah, when he went from the 64-yard field goal. So yeah, if it's gonna happen, it's inevitable."
Russell Wilson is not fully healthy and him playing this game is potentially desperation from Hackett. He has been under pressure since Week 1's loss to the Seattle Seahawks, and the Broncos are currently 2-5.
The franchise were expecting to feature in the playoffs and if Hackett can't win games, somebody else might. It will be interesting to see what happens in Denver after their game in London against the Jaguars.
Russell Wilson could be helped by the appointment of a new head coach
Many believe that Russell Wilson has been one of the worst quarterbacks in the league this year. Some have placed much of the blame for that on Nathaniel Hackett. If Hackett does get fired following the game against the Jaguars, it might be good for Wilson going forward.
However, there is no guarantee that Wilson is bound to improve under a new head coach, and things could get even worse. Russell Wilson needs to improve if this Denver team wants to go to the playoffs, as they currently seem to be the same side they were last season.
