Ashton Jeanty to Cowboys? Top 2025 NFL Draft prospect gets blunt on landing in Dallas

Boise State star and Heisman Trophy candidate Ashton Jeanty is the best running back and one of the best overall players in college football this season. His numbers speak for themselves.

In six games played this season, Jeanty has rushed for 1,248 yards and 17 touchdowns while averaging 9.9 yards per carry. The junior will soon be running on Sundays in the NFL.

On a recent livestream, Jeanty spoke about his prospects of playing for different teams in the NFL, one of them being the Cowboys. He played high school football in Frisco, Texas, about 45 minutes from where Dallas plays. He said he would be a hometown hero if he were to be drafted by Dallas.

"Dallas Cowboys. I’m not saying they’re not a good fit. I’m not saying that at all. I’m from Frisco. I played in their practice stadium. I would be a hometown hero if I was there.”

Per FanDuel odds, Jeanty is currently tied with Miami quarterback, Cam Ward, for the best odds (+200) to win the Heisman this season.

Running backs don't get drafted in the first round that often these days, but Ashton Jeanty is almost a lock to be a first-round pick. If Dallas has the chance to draft him, they should not miss out on that opportunity.

The Cowboys have been struggling in the run game this season. They rank dead last in rush yards per game, averaging just 77.2 a game. They are also dead last in yards per carry as a team, averaging 3.5 yards a pop.

The Cowboys also rank last in total rush yards in six games with 463. They also have the wooden spoon in rushing touchdowns as a team with two. Their run game is a big issue.

Dallas' leading rusher is fourth-year running back Rico Dowdle, who has 246 yards but no rushing touchdowns. Veteran backup Ezekiel Elliott is the team's second leading rusher with 115 yards and one touchdown. Quarterback Dak Prescott is the only other player on the offense with a rushing touchdown.

The last time the Cowboys selected a running back in the first round was when they selected Elliott fourth overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. Could they draft a running back in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft?
