Bears QB Caleb Williams reveals plans to paint nails in 2024 NFL season after facing backlash in college
During his incredible run with USC, Caleb Williams was not only known for his electrifying playstyle but also for his eccentric fashion choices. The quarterback often made headlines for sending messages with his nail paint art. However, he has yet to debut it as a Chicago Bear.
But he has confirmed that he's planning on bringing it back during the 2024 NFL season. During an appearance on Pardon My Take, the rookie revealed he's reserving the nail art for special occasions as he wants it to be unique every time and doesn't want to run out of ideas too soon. Williams said:
"I try to do that for games, like regular season, things like that, playoffs. Also because I've been doing it for so long now, I'm trying to, like, make sure I can do it for games, because I run out of ideas." [o:04 to 0:16]
When asked if he'd paint any swear words on his nails or send an obscene message to the Bears' opponents like he did when the USC Trojans took on the Utah Utes, he responded that he's steering clear of that:
"I will not be doing that [going to write f**k on his nails]. He [Roger Goodell] would have some things to say. I'm trying to keep good-spirited things on my nails. It does fire me up. I can use other stuff that'll fire me up." [0:27 to 0:41]
Caleb Williams' nail paint art was as polarizing as his emotional outpouring on the bench after losing a game. However, he's unbothered by the criticism and has assured that he'll continue to be himself and wear his heart on his sleeve.
Bears QB Caleb Williams makes Super Bowl promise to crying critics
Following the USC Trojans' 52-42 loss at home against Washington during the 2023 CFB season, the quarterback broke into tears on the bench. He was labeled a 'drama queen' for his emotional state.
When asked about the moment during his appearance on Pardon My Take, he claimed that it showcased how much he cared about winning and not letting the fans down. He said:
"So when I lose, I know how important it is that these games that we win and lose. So [I'm] trying to win every game. It's what we go out there to do. That's why we're here now. It's why we have practice throughout the week.. But if a tear drops it's how much I care for winning and losing." [1:40:04 to 1:40:28]
He also committed to making the Bears fans cry but claimed it'd be tears of joy when he potentially ends their Super Bowl drought, which is now in its 38th year.
"When we win the Super Bowl, at some point, I'm hoping we have multiple people out there crying tears of joy." [1:39:56 to 1:40:02]
Chicago is banking on Williams to be the savior the franchise has been praying for and he's seemingly up for the task.
