Bears WR Rome Odunze’s father James makes feelings known over rumors of Mike Vrabel replacing Matt Eberflus
We're in Week 13 and there is officially one more head coaching vacancy in the NFL. Matt Eberflus didn't exactly have a lot to be thankful for on Thanksgiving Day as the Chicago Bears suffered their sixth straight loss to the Detroit Lions despite keeping pace with the NFC's best team all afternoon.
Some questionable game management on the final play of that 23-20 loss saw Eberflus lose his job the next day as the Bears made it official. Since then, several names have been thrown around to replace Eberflus.
One name who has prominently figured is former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, who is currently with the Cleveland Browns. However, rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze's father made it clear he wasn't a fan of Vrabel landing in the Windy City.
James Odunze retweeted two posts highlighting why Vrabel wouldn't be the smartest choice to take over as head coach. One of them read:
"Everyone needs to stop with the Mike Vrabel speak.
"The Bears need an offensive minded HC. Offensive playcalling and elite QB play is the most valuable thing in today’s NFL. Point blank.
"I had an open mind w/Flus despite JF1. Not this time with CW18. Get the offensive guy."
The second post pointed out how the rest of the league has turned to offensive-minded coaches who have led their franchises to a respectable record. A few names on that list include San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, Los Angeles Rams HC Sean McVay and Minnesota Vikings HC Kevin O'Connell.
List of names Bears could consider for head coach job
The 2025 NFL coaching carousel is already shaping up to be an interesting one. So far, the New York Jets, New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears are in dire need of a new head coach whereas we could also see a few more teams added to that list.
The top names available for the job include Bill Belichick and Mike Vrabel, while there are also a few up-and-coming coaches who could land interviews next year. Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has been frequently tapped as the next rookie head coach along with his colleague, DC Aaron Glenn.
Among the more familiar names, Vikings DC Brian Flores and Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury could also be options in 2025.
