Benedictine College nuns condemn Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker’s “controversial” commencement speech
Harrison Butker has been in the limelight for a week now, going viral for his controversial commencement speech at Benedictine College. So far, many celebrities have reacted to Butker’s comments; however, none have come forward from any college associates.
That changed when the nuns of Benedictine College released an official statement, sharing their views on Butker’s speech. The Benedictine sisters took to their Facebook account to share their official statement.
“As a founding institution and sponsor of Benedictine College, the sisters of Mount St. Scholastica find it necessary to respond to the controversial remarks of Harrison Butker as commencement speaker,” Benedictine Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica said in their statement.
The sisters highlighted that they don’t believe Butker’s controversial comments represent the college:
“The sisters of Mount St. Scholastica do not believe that Harrison Butker’s comments in his 2024 Benedictine College commencement address represent the Catholic, Benedictine, liberal arts college that our founders envisioned and in which we have been so invested.”
Addressing Butler directly, the nuns said that the comments from the Kansas City Chiefs kicker seem to have caused division in their church and around the nation. Moreover, the nuns also said Butker’s “homemaker” comment was one of their biggest concerns.
“One of our concerns was the assertion that being a homemaker is the highest calling for a woman. We sisters have dedicated our lives to God and God’s people, including the many women whom we have taught and influenced during the past 160 years,” the statement read.
In their statement, the nuns reject the idea of women as “homemakers,” calling it a narrow definition. The Benedictine sisters concluded their statement by thanking the supporters of the Mount community.
An NFL WAG also recently shared her disagreement with Butker’s speech.

Allison Kuch also did not like Harrison Butker’s comments, especially towards women. Kuch shared her views on Butker’s comments through a TikTok video she recently posted. Expressing her opinions in a viral video, she said:
“I have worked my ass off not only to chase my dreams and be successful, but also to make a name for myself so I’m not just somebody’s wife,” she said. “Don’t get me wrong. I love my husband, I love being his wife. I am just not an NFL wife. That shouldn’t be what my entire life succumbs to.”
