Bill Belichick hilariously roasts Bills' Tyler Bass for missing extra point kick vs. Jets on MNF

Tyler Bass is at it again. On Monday Night Football against the New York Jets, the Buffalo Bills kicker badly missed an extra point attempt wide left after Josh Allen found Mack Hollins for a touchdown.

Bill Belichick, former head coach of the divisional rival New England Patriots, mocked the miss on the ManningCast:

"That looks like my four iron, Peyton."

Bass is no stranger to missed kicks. Infamously, during last season's Divisional Round game against the Kansas City Chiefs, he sent a potentially game-tying 44-yard field goal attempt wide right, evoking comparisons to Scott Norwood.

He received death threats in the aftermath of the game, but Allen defended him by saying that the situation should never have happened in the first place:

“One play doesn’t define a game, it doesn’t define a season. I know people are gonna be out there saying that. We’ve got to be there for [Tyler], because (if) we execute a couple plays prior, we’re probably singing a different tune right now.”

Bills HC Sean McDermott still has faith in Tyler Bass despite kicker’s struggles

The question of Tyler Bass’ reliability has been looming over fans’ minds ever since the aforementioned notorious miss in the Divisional Round. During the lopsided 10-35 loss at the Baltimore Ravens, the kicker missed a 48-yarder - his second of 2024, once again raising doubts over his long-term future.

But in the post-game presser, head coach Sean McDermott had a definitive refutation of such notions:

“We are confident in Tyler. He made a good kick earlier in the game. Does he need to make that kick? Absolutely. He’ll continue to work on those. We’ve got a lot of areas to improve on, that being one of them. Like I said, we fly back, we’re starting to work on them right away.”

But it is not as if there will be no more competition. Two weeks prior to that game, the Bills had hosted Anders Carlson and Cade York. Both were ultimately not signed.

However, if Bass continues to struggle, then general manager Brandon Beane has a strong pool of free agents to lure. Besides the aforementioned Carlson and York, the likes of Riley Patterson and Rodrigo Blankenship are also available.
