Bill Belichick lays down gameplan for Jets and Cowboys' "uphill climb" to playoffs
Former New England Patriots general manager Bill Belichick was invited remotely on the "Pat McAfee Podcast," where he shared his insights on teams, suggesting their next moves.
As of Week 9, the Jets and the Cowboys each have three wins, with a slim possibility of making the postseason.
The 72-year-old reflected on their postseason chances:
“The Jets and Dallas both have three wins. So that’s a third of the league. That’s three wins or less. They’re obviously facing an uphill climb to get into the postseason. They have to go on a couple of long winning streaks for that to happen.”
Earlier, he clarified that at the mid-season point, three wins is the cut-off for teams to even think about a postseason appearance. He said:
“Every team in the NFL with four or more wins thinks that they’re in it right now. How much are you willing to give up to get a player for half of a season is the real question.”
A look into Dallas Cowboys and NY Jets' season
The teams are heading into the mid-season trade deadline of Nov. 5, and it is likely their last opportunity to get the right ingredient for preparing a winning roster.
Most of the Jets players have failed to perform, including their best bet, QB Aaron Rodgers. The veteran ran into trouble with his 'wrong route' comment on teammate Mike Williams. The Jets have also fired coach Robert Saleh, as the team looks forward to a rebuild.
On the other hand, the Cowboys are struggling through poor form and injuries. Last week, they added one more after a horrific “hospital ball” throw from Dak Prescott that sent Chris Olave back home. They already have CeeDee Lamb sidelined due to injury. However, Jerry Jones is aware of the situation and working on it.
In the post-game press conference, he assured fans that management will do everything they can to improve the team. Jones said:
“We’re going to do everything at all times to improve this team, and our judgment says if we have to give up something, we’ll do it.”
The Jets are up against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 10 while the Cowboys will take on the Philadelphia Eagles.
