Bill Belichick rips Daniel Jones' Giants after crushing 28-3 loss to Eagles
Bill Belichick didn't like what he saw in the New York Giants. A day after they were routed 28-3 at home by the divisional rival Philadelphia Eagles, the former New England Patriots coach visited Pat McAfee's eponymous show and shared his thoughts on their struggles:
"(Saquon) was their best player. For a couple million dollars more, they could have kept him. Instead, they got a guard or somebody. I don't know, offensive line doesn't look very good.
"They're playing a guy at left tackle who shouldn't be playing left tackle. Evan Neal is drafted in the first round ... I thought that the quarterback was trying to hang in there. It's been tough."
Running back Saquon Barkley was a key part of that rout, exploding for 176 rushing yards and a touchdown on just 17 carries against his former team.
Daniel Jones, meanwhile, was nowhere to be found, covering 99 yards on 14 completions, and was also sacked eight times.
Bill Belichick praises Steelers HC Mike Tomlin for replacing Justin Fields with Russell Wilson vs. Jets
The Giants next face the Steelers on Oct. 28, and in the same podcast appearance, Bill Belichick had nothing but good words for one of his former rivals, coach Mike Tomlin.
On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers started Russell Wilson instead of Justin Fields against the New York Jets. It worked, as they won 37-15 on the strength of his 264 passing yards and two touchdowns from 16 completions. After the game, Tomlin boasted:
"That's why I'm well-compensated."
Belichick commended him for the change:
"As usual, he makes a lot of good moves and knows this team extremely well. Now he knows what he has with Wilson and he knows what he has in Fields. You know that’s a good thing to have halfway through the season and have two guys that you can count on.”
Speaking of the Jets, Bill Belichick commented on their owner, Woody Johnson, for ditching head coach Robert Saleh:
“I just don't understand the head coaching move, that's all. But the Jets are the Jets, and you know, Woody is Woody, so … Woody's Woody.”
