Bill Belichick serves Eagles a compliment for trading $45,000,000 ‘problem’ away

For decades, Bill Belichick managed one of the top franchises in the NFL. The astute 72-year-old built a career on recognizing problems early, which is why he complimented the Philadelphia Eagles for ridding themselves of their linebacker despite solid performances on the field.

In the September 17 episode of his new podcast "Let's Go!" with Maxx Crosby, the former New England Patriots head coach and general manager discussed the management styles of different NFL franchises. Belichick expressed admiration for Jerry Jones’ Cowboys and praised the Philadelphia Eagles for their handling of LB Haason Reddick.

“I think there are a lot of teams that are managed really well,” said Belichick. “Dallas has accumulated a lot of really good players and they’ve been able to balance that with Aubrey, Turpin, guys that are really great players but didn’t cost too much in draft capital or contracts.”
“You see a team like Philadelphia making great moves like signing Bryce Huff and trading away Reddick, giving that problem to somebody else.” [14:20]

Bill Belichick was referring to Reddick being traded away by the Eagles earlier in the offseason, despite signing a $45 million extension. Upon joining the New York Jets, Reddick held out, demanding a new contract. He did not attend any practice sessions and refused to be featured in the Jets’ game, demanding another trade.

Bill Belichick suggests Tom Brady is better than him

In addition to praising other franchises, Bill Belichick also complimented his podcast guest, Tom Brady. The duo is starting a new career in broadcasting and made their debut in the booth this season. When asked about his former pupil’s performance as a broadcaster, Belichick unusually expressed his enthusiasm for it.

“I loved it,” Belichick said. “I saw a lot of that Dallas-Cleveland game. I thought Tom’s (broadcasting) turned out a lot better than mine did.”

Belichick further complimented Brady’s analysis of the Week 1 game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Cleveland Browns. Both men, after terrorizing their NFL opponents on the field, have now found a place in media and content creation to impart their knowledge to the next generation.
