Billionaire Jets owner Woody Johnson reportedly dropped F-bomb out against injured QB after 2022 NFL elimination
Woody Johnson has had a rough decade as the owner of the New York Jets. Year after year, analysts, fans and announcers write off the team. Year after year, their low expectations are proven correct. Once again, despite getting Aaron Rodgers to play this season, the Jets are in as dark of a place as they have ever been.
There's been plenty of opportunities for Johnson to lose his cool and while 2023 and 2024 have offered plenty of chances for the owner to call out his players, it was a backup quarterback in 2022 that set him over the edge. According to a report from The Athletic published on Thursday, Johnson lost his cool talking to an injured Mike White.
According to the article, the quarterback had been dealing with a rib injury. After losing their last-gasp effort, White threw his helmet across the locker room.
"You should throw your helmet, you f—ing suck,” multiple Jets players heard Woody Johnson say.
In 2022, the Jets went 7-10. White went 1-3 with the Jets in 2022 and 2-5 in his career with the team.
Aaron Rodgers and Mike White match win-loss pace under Woody Johnson
Well, if Woody Johnson was unimpressed with White's win-loss production, logic points to similar frustrations with Aaron Rodgers. White went 2-5 in 2021 and 2022. Aaron Rodgers, meanwhile, has gone 5-10 with the Jets.
Of course, an Achilles injury ruined his 2023 season, but when it comes to winning pace, Rodgers is at the same pace as White.
That said, if Johnson were to dig into the numbers, Rodgers' production towers over White in the most important category. White threw for eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Rodgers, meanwhile, has thrown for 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
If one divides Rodgers' numbers in half to match White, he would have about 12 touchdowns and four interceptions. As such, while the Jets continue to struggle, Rodgers continues to perform statistically. When the Jets lost on White's watch, his numbers struggled as well.
If Rodgers can win out, the last of the comparisons to White go up in smoke. At 4-10 with three games left, the quarterback can still salvage a 7-10 season to beat out White's win-loss and keep pace with the Zach Wilson-led Jets in 2023.
