Bills' latest move confirms Damar Hamlin's immediate future in NFL
The Damar Hamlin story is one that has gripped not only the NFL, but the entire sports world. After making a routine tackle, the safety fell to the ground and - without going into too much detail - needed to be administered CPR.
Football and just about anything else took a backseat as everyone waited for news on Hamlin. The fact that he is showing signs of improvement makes us all breathe a little easier.
As far as his football activity goes though, that is over for the season as the Buffalo Bills have placed him on IR (Injured Reserve).
Who are the favorites for the Super Bowl?
Hamlin was always unlikely to play again this season and in truth, despite being in just his second year in the NFL, his career is up in the air.
With so many things going on in the NFL world regarding concussions (Tua Tagovailoa) and now Hamlin's health, many wonder if the duo should ever step on a football field again. By placing the safety on Injured Reserve, the Bills have, at least, ruled him out of this season, which is just as well since no one wanted to see him on the field after what transpired.
What's next for Damar Hamlin?
Well, first and foremost, getting healthy is priority number one. The thought of trying to get back to football should be the least of the safety's thoughts, even though we know football players always want to return as soon as possible.
The news that Hamlin FaceTimed the Bills during the team meeting will surely give everyone a lift. It shows signs of great progress. But the idea of playing football again is likely just that - an idea.
Considering the gravity of his situation, revealed shortly after he was taken to hospital, the improvement to where he is now is fantastic.
Whether or not Damar Hamlin returns to the NFL is anyone's guess. But if his career is to end, no one can begrudge him for priortizing his health over football.
